Tin Cup Burlington
The Tin Cup staff and management had come to live with temperature fluctuations, draughts and tables where guests did not want to sit in cold weather. Their HVAC service company seemed more interested than selling parts than solving problems. Utility bills were considered a fixed cost. The lighting control system installed 8 years ago at significant expense required manual operation using a remote control, and was dependant on staff adjusting scenes at the appropriate time each day. The owner had invested in a Demand Control system in 2010, but it never really made much difference to utility costs.
Installation
After seeing RecessD at a nearby restaurant, and recognizing that his building controls were primitive compared to what his competitors were now using, RecessD was contacted and new controls were quickly installed.
12 dimmers and switches controlling indoor and outdoor lighting were quickly replaced with RecessD models. Two thermostats were replaced with RecessD thermostats. The Demand Control system was updated with control handled by RecessD. Old yellow wheel style timers were replaced with RecessD controls. The HVAC units fresh air settings were adjusted and the building airflow balanced.
Results
Adjustments to the HVAC system and proper control of Exhaust/Makeup air volumes eliminated the draughts, cold tables and temperature fluctuations. Lighting now adjusts as required throughout the operating day with no operator input. Evening dimming and outdoor signage/lighting adjusts slightly each day based on the sunset time for that day. The Demand Control system minimizes the exhaust and Makeup air requirements at different times during the day. An override switch is located within easy reach should extra exhaust be required due to unexpected cooking volume.
In the first full month of operation, utility costs declined 32%, saving $1300 compared to the average bills from the past two years. Payback is expected to be 9 months.
Tin Cup owner John Strategis says
“I should have done this a long time ago”.
John has since installed RecessD at the Oakville Tin Cup, Rust Bistro in Burlington, and has specified it on a new Tin Cup opening in Ancaster in the spring of 2020.
